Alabama Town Council Meets By Terralea Collins Ardmore, AL ~ October 16, 2006 ~ 6:30 PM ~ Mayor Eugene Shannon brought the council meeting to order by opening in prayer. Present at the meeting were Melody Duffey, Moody King, Billy Shannon, Ricky Mitchell, vice-mayor; Mary Hobbs and Clerk Darla Daly; guests Police Chief William “Doc” Oliver; Ardmore, TN Mayor Bobby Hastings, aldermen Laurene Schrimsher, Janice Reece, Tim McConnell, Raymond Crabtree, Ken Crosson and Garon Hargrove. Media representatives Becky Parker of WSLV 1110 AM Radio and Paul Manke from the Giles Free Press were also present, as was Ardmore, AL/TN Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Maalac Steele. Other policemen and guests from the community were present. Ricky Mitchell made a motion that the minutes from the last meeting were correct. Melody Duffey seconded the motion. All were in favor. First on the agenda was the business for the Boys and Girls Club. Mary Hobbs motioned to approve the $3,000.00 donation and Billy Shannon seconded, with everyone approving. A discussion was started by Mayor Shannon explaining that the budget got out of line for the years 2005 and 2006. “They are still in the black but they need to keep better control over it,” said Mayor Shannon. Spent money went toward the raise in gasoline prices for city cars and trucks, utility costs, the Alabama Park, and remodeling of the Whitt House. Second on the agenda was to review Tennessee’s leash law, then adopt the same law for the town limits on the Alabama side. Dogs must be on a leash when walking in public or must be contained in a kennel, fenced yard or using a wireless collar keeping them on the owner’s property. Moody King motioned and Melody Duffey seconded, with all in favor. Third on the agenda was to get a variance to put four to six horses on Ms. Gowdy’s six acres of land, which is in the town limits. After a long discussion, Melody Duffey made the motion, Billy Shannon seconded, and all were in favor. The meeting was adjourned. |
