This week’s Passing Parade is the Liberty School Play, “Poor Father” held in the Spring of 1927. Those in the photo include bottom row left to right, Nell Gray (as the black man George Washington Jones), Daisy Williams, and Mamie Tucker(borrowed police suit from a friend); back row left to right, Maurice Dickey, Frances Fanning, Octa Reed, Ruby Reed (dressed as a boy), Liz Mae Gray (an old lady - had powder in her hair), John B. Fanning, Edith Jones, Knox Fanning, and Nellie Moore. The play called for a coffin made by Riley Gray and Charlie Ventress and in the play Nell Gray had to be in the coffin. John B. and Knox had to sit on the coffin with Nell inside of it. Liz Mae and Nell sucked lemons before the start of the play so they could speak plainly in their parts. |

Another school play the same year was “Tom Thumb’s Wedding” with the groom played by J. C. Hoots and Ailene Taylor as the bride. The minister was John B. Reed and the bride was given in marriage by Jimbo Gray. The flowergirls were Josephine Jones, Dorothy Jones,
Retha Bell, and Linda Williams. The ushers were Frankie Locker escorting Mildred Tucker and Bob Gray escorting Elizabeth Harris. Alice K. Locker was a bridesmaid and Wilbur Raga was best
I really appreciate all the visits, cards, letters and phone calls I’ve received but I’m sorry my phone voice/speech is not as good as it used to be.
On October 19 I went to the emergency room and was admitted with on-going seizures and am being treated with Dilantin for that. Good news is I do not have pneumonia. I returned to Skill Care on Sunday, October 22.
I really missed attending the annual Koonce Reunion October 1, 2006. at the Liberty Church of Christ Recreation Room. Attendees were: Tom and Doris Decker, Donny Decker, Calvin and Ruth Koonce, Lex and Margaret Henderson, Eddie and Mary Fuller, Cassina Slayton Houb, Dora Slayton, Lillie Mae Owens, Gloria Bishop, Ken and Sandra Hereford, Clifford and Elveree Holley, Sandra Yates, Ronald and Linda Whitworth Huff, Allen Betsehart, Hubert Lee and Janice Whitworth, Sally Barker, Virginia Pearson, Jerry and Evelyn Bennett, Willie & Wilma Towry, Charles W. & Carol Taylor, Billy R. & Angela Osment and Jackie and Josef, Kenneth Whitworth, Helen Whitworth Hale, Dothan Hale, Patsy Slayton, Danika Wadsworth, Selena McCaleb, and Katie Presti and 2 children.
