Giles Co. Bobcats Get
Win Over Marshall Co.

The Giles County High School Bobcats closed out their regular season with a 36-32 win over the Marshall County Tigers last Friday. Giles County will face Bolivar Central in Friday night’s opening round of the state playoffs.

The win over the Tigers was not an easy one. The visiting Tigers reeled off 12 unanswered points before the Bobcats could get on the scoreboard.

Quon Reynolds narrowed the score when he scored on a 7-yard run. John Stafford kicked the extra point with three minutes gone in the second quarter.

The Tigers scored on a 17-yard pass before the Bobcats scored twice to gain the lead. Sam Edgmon scored on a 3-yard carry and Reynolds scored on the extra-point run. Just before that period ended Reynolds scored on a 1-yard. The Tigers countered with a short run to lead at the half 26-22.

Edgmon gave the lead back to the Bobcats in the third quarter scoring on a 1-yard carry. Stafford’s kick put the Bobcats on top 29-26 after three quarters of action.

Edgmon’s 13-yard scoring run put the game out of reach for the Tigers with 1:28 left in the region contest. With nine seconds left Marshall County scored on a 9-yard run.

Edgmon led the Bobcats offensively with 319 yards on 39 carries. Trent Pettus had a pair of interceptions for the winners.
