Hazel Green Closes Season With A Win

Richard Thompson ran for 202 yards and one touchdown to lead the Hazel Green Trojans to a 22-20 win over Anniston last Friday. That is the first win for first-year Trojan coach Chris Jones.

Anniston built a 12-0 early in the second quarter before Thompson scored on 6-yard run. Kevin Nayman kicked the extra-point.

The first Hazel Green lead came in the third quarter when Caleb Anderson scored on a 3-yard carry. Tyler Yarbrough scored on the two-point run.

The final Trojan score came with 52 seconds left in the third quarter when Howard Anderson’s connected on an 18-yard pass to Colby Lipham.

Sparkman 31, Athens 14

The visiting Sparkman Senators converted three Athens Golden Eagles’ turnovers into touchdowns in their 31-14 win last Friday.

Bryant Williams scored on a 20-yard run following an interception. His next touchdown came on a 3-yard run. Michael Kitchen’s 27-yard field goal completed the first half scoring.

In the third quarter, Dee Elston scored on a 36-yard run.

The Senators will face Tuscaloosa County in the opening round of the state play offs on Friday.

Other teams representing Region 8 6A are Huntsville at Hueytown, Bob Jones at Pelham and Thompson at Florence.
