The Elkton Board of Mayor and Aldermen met in regular session Thursday, November 9 with all members present. City Attorney Joe Fowlkes, who is out of the country, was absent.

Community Thanksgiving Service Set
The annual Ardmore Community Thanksgiving Service will be held Tuesday, November 21, at Piney Grove Baptist Church. The Thanksgiving service is held each year for everyone in the area to come together in a special time of thankfulness. All churches are invited to participate.

Toy Chest Applications Will Be Taken Saturday
The Ardmore, AL/TN Civitan Club will be accepting applications for their annual Toy Chest project Saturday, November 18, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. Applications for children 12 years of age and under will be taken at the Tennessee City Hall Annex behind the Ardmore Public Library. Last week’s application time was rescheduled to this Saturday.

Three Arrested, Confess To Weekend Slaying
Ardmore Police Chief William “Doc” Oliver, Officers Tracy Luna and David Posey teamed up with Sheriff Mike Blakely of Limestone County, together with District Attorney Kristi Valls and several reserves uncovering the murder of Arthur Champion who was found dead in his home on State Line Road, Ardmore, AL on Sunday, November 12, around 4:40 in the afternoon.

Sparkman Senators Rewrite Record Book
When Brandon Busby and Adam Korak knocked down a Tuscaloosa County pass on fourth down in the second overtime it gave the Sparkman Senators a 38-31 win Friday in the first round of the state playoffs. That goes down in the Senator record book as the first win in seven tries in the state playoffs.

Tigers Fall To Wildcats In Playoff Opener
A strong Guntersville defense and offensive team speed spelled disaster for the Ardmore Tigers last Friday night in the opening round of the Class 4A State Playoffs. Capitalizing on several big plays, Guntersville rolled to a 35-0 win and advanced to the second playoff round.

GCHS Bobcats Advance To State Quarterfinals
The No. 8 team in Class 3A, Giles County, knocked out previously unbeaten and No. 3 Jackson South Side 21-7 last Friday to the advance to the quarterfinals of the TSSAA state football playoffs. They will travel to Nashville on Friday to face the only team to defeat them this season, David Lipscomb. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
Falcons Fall To Riverdale
The Riverdale Warriors advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class 5A state play-offs with a 27-9 win over the visiting Lincoln County Falcons last Friday.
Elks Get A Pair Of Wins
The Elkton Elks opened their basketball season with a pair of wins. They defeated Cornersville 43-33 in the season opener last Monday before stopping Richland 34-16 on Thursday.
Lady Elks Drop Two
The Lady Elks dropped a pair of games to Richland and Cornersville last week in middle school basketball action. Elkton lost to Cornersville 33-8 on Monday and to Richland on Thursday 25-11.
Talkin' Baseball
As the annual Hot Stove League gets underway, I have found myself thinking about the needs of various teams around the Major Leagues and what they might do to improve their chances when the 2007 campaign gets underway in April. With several big name free agents available and the possibilities of blockbuster trades, this off-season should prove interesting.
