Robert Allen Gray

Robert Allen Gray, 89, of 303 Green Street, Fayetteville, TN, died Saturday, November 11, 2006, at Lincoln Skill Care Center.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 14, at 2 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Billy Cole, Bro. Doyle Wright and Bro. Ben Rutledge officiating. Burial was in the Stewarts Cemetery with Higgins Funeral Home in charge.

A native of Lincoln County, TN, Gray was the son of the late William Riley and Oma Myrtle Locker Gray. He was a retired LPN and Liberty News writer for several years in YOUR COMMUNITY SHOPPER and for over 40 years in the Elk Valley Times and Observer. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and Liberty Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by three brothers, James Riley, Leland Winston and William Howard Gray; and two sisters, Elizabeth Mai Smiley and Ida Nell Hereford.

Survivors include four nieces, Ann Segraves of Searcy, AR, Pat Webb of Fayetteville, Gloria Turney of Hartselle, AL, and Brenda Cole of Murfreesboro; and two nephews, Ken Hereford of Chattanooga and John B. Smiley of Fayetteville.

James Porter Thomas

James Porter Thomas, 56, of Middleburg, FL, died at his home on Sunday, November 5, 2006.

Funeral Services were held Thursday, November 9, at 2 p.m. at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors was in the Garden of the Good Shepherd at Jacksonville Memory Gardens.

Thomas was the son of Jesse (Tom) C. and Bobbie Lois Thomas and was a 1968 graduate of Central High School in Fayetteville. He was a Naval Veteran of the Vietnam War. After returning to Fayetteville, he became one of the first paramedics for Lincoln County Hospital and worked for HEMSI in Huntsville, AL. Thomas served in law enforcement in Lincoln County, Ardmore, and Pulaski, before moving to Florida, where he was a member of the Russell Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Corinne Thomas, children Stephanie Shannon of Melbourne, FL, and Nicholas Thomas of Middleburg, FL, and grandchildren Lorynn Thomas, Austin Mazariegos, and Will Shannon. Survivors also include his mother, Bobbie Thomas, Toney, AL, sister, Sandra Sprayberry, Pineville, LA, brother, John Thomas, Toney, AL, and sister, Polly Knox, Toney, AL.

Betty June Thornton

Betty June Thornton, 66, of Elkwood Section Road, Toney, AL, died Thursday, November 9, 2006, at Huntsville Hospital, Huntsville, AL.

Funeral services were held Sunday, November 12, at 3 p.m. at Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Rob Tripp officiating. Burial was in the Gatlin Cemetery in Ardmore, AL, with Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home in charge.

Betty Thornton was born April 2, 1940 to Arthur Eugene Wilburn and Lola Mae Whitt Wilburn in Madison County, AL. She lived all of her life in this area. She was a member of Stateline Freewill Baptist Church. Mrs. Thornton was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Wilburn; husband, R.W. Thornton; and son, Greg Thornton.

Survivors include her mother, Lola Mae Wilburn of Huntsville, AL; daughters, Angela Kennedy of Toney, AL and Shanna Ahlander of Hermitage, TN; brothers, Alton Wilburn of Coldwater, TN, Aaron Wilburn of Hendersonville, TN, Jackie Wilburn of Ardmore, AL; sisters, Nelda Thompson of Lawton, OK, Sara Hamrick of Ider, AL, and Sue Mitchell of Madison, AL; grandchildren, Steven and Amanda Kennedy of Toney, AL, Krista Thornton, Chanel and Chloe Ahlander all of Hermitage, TN; great-grandchildren, Alex and Nic Kennedy of Toney, AL.

Vann Buren Davis

Vann Buren Davis, 88, of 7th Street, Ardmore, AL, died Wednesday, November 8, 2006, at his residence.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 11, at 1 p.m. at Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Glen Keenum and Bro. Carl Witty officiating. Burial was in the Hasting Cemetery with Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home in charge.

Vann Buren Davis was born March 24, 1918 in Pettusville, AL, to Cicero Edward Davis and Daisey Kay Wallace Davis. He lived in this area all of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Lorene Davis of Ardmore, AL; son, Joe Raby (Lynn) Davis of Ardmore, AL; sister, Mable King of Ardmore, AL; grandchildren, Aleshia and Barry Teeples, Joe Neil and Becky Davis all of Elkmont, AL; great-grandchildren, James Vann Teeples, Matthew Teeples, Emily Davis, Barrett Teeples, Sara Davis and Jayce Teeples.
