GCHS Bobcats Advance
To State Quarterfinals

The No. 8 team in Class 3A, Giles County, knocked out previously unbeaten and No. 3 Jackson South Side 21-7 last Friday to the advance to the quarterfinals of the TSSAA state football playoffs. They will travel to Nashville on Friday to face the only team to defeat them this season, David Lipscomb. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Sam Edgmon led the winners with 105 of their 281 rushing yards.

South Side scored first in the second quarter to take the lead 7-0. Tavoris Bates scored on a 13-yard run and Michael Cain provided the extra point with 5:24 left in the first half.

The Bobcats scored twice before the quarter’s end on the way to the win.

Quon Reynolds scored on a 2-yard run with just under two minutes left in the half and John Stafford kicked the extra point to tie the score.

Just before that period ended, Edgmon hit Nathan Bain with an 8-yard scoring halfback pass. Stafford provided the extra point and the Bobcats never trailed again.

Edgmon assured the Bobcats of the win when he scored on a 2-yard carry. Stafford’s extra point completed the scoring.

Credit the Bobcats for limiting South Side’s Jontamion Forrest to just 66 yards rushing. Coming into Friday’s game Forrest had scored 28 touchdowns and rushed for 1,818 yards.

Lipscomb advanced to Friday’s quarterfinals with a 35-0 win over region foe Spring Hill.
