Come From Behind Bid Falls Short

The Ardmore Lady Tigers’ come-from-behind bid fell a little bit short Friday in their season opener at Elkmont. The Lady Tigers scored 48 second half points in their 68-64 loss to the Lady Red Devils.

Ardmore’s double digit scorers, Aarika Boggs, Jennifer Ratley and Shannon Fogg combined for 32 of those second half points. Boggs scored 18, Ratley 17 and Fogg 14 for the Lady Tigers.

Bailee Robinson led all scorers with 25 for Elkmont as Amber Harwell scored 12 and Stephanie Bentley 11.

Trailing 41-26 after two quarters of play, Ardmore scored eight of the last 10 points of the quarter. In that run Fogg hit three two-pointers and Boggs two.

Three was as close as Ardmore could get early in the final quarter. After scoring eight unanswered points, Ardmore allowed a free throw, before scoring the next seven points, to pull within three, 58-55.

With 1:48 remaining, Ratley hit a two-pointer to pull Ardmore within three, 63-60. Olivia Pressnell hit a pair of free throws for Elkmont to push the lead to five.

Ratley and Robinson each hit a free throw for their respective teams just before Jennifer Mills hit a three-pointer with 16.6 seconds left to cut the margin to two.

Harwell, a former student at Ardmore High School, hit a pair of free throws with 12.4 seconds left for the winners.

Also scoring for the Tigers were Mills with seven, Courtney Pettus and Brittany Miles with four points each, while Megan Pressnell added two.
