Dear Editor, Pulaski Post 60 of the American Legion, Department of Tennessee, is again soliciting donations to our Big Brothers campaign to provide food for needy individuals and families throughout out county at Christmas. We obtain names of the recipients from the Department of Human Services, local churches, civic organizations and individuals. The recipients are then screened and their need for this service verified. Over four hundred Giles County families were recipients of food and gifts last year. We understand that the community has continually helped the various organizations that do help Giles County residents throughout the year, but we also hope that we can still help our Community & County families on Christmas Eve. The American Legion also sponsors the Giles County Oratorical Contest, Boys’ and Girls’ State, Babe Ruth League Baseball, and two scholarships to Martin Methodist College. For more information call the Post at 931/363-3323 anytime, or mail your donation to: American Legion Post #60, P.O. Box 184, Pulaski, TN 38478. We sincerely hope you can help us in this worthwhile project to help others. Sincerely, Debbie Newell, Chairman 2006 Big Brothers Committee American Legion Post 60 Dear Editor: My name is David Adams. I was raised around the fine city of Ardmore, and miss the people dearly. Ardmore is a special town with its rich history, from the Old Bloody Bucket to the stories of Uncle Alvin Russell and the World Famous Boobie Bungalow, for its fine churches which are the foundation of the community, all the way to the simple, good-hearted people that you meet at every corner. I miss the days of visiting families there. I have been around the world in the past few years, seen war and wonder, and many different cultures, but my heart lives in your town. I pray the community stays the same as I try to get back there one day and raise a family there, if the Lord permits. I ask you to take time and visit with your neighbor and see and feel the love that surrounds your town. I pray to return soon. I will be off to Iraq soon, but hope when I return to come home to Ardmore. To visit with Scotty and Larry Joe at the car lot, to visit with Diane and Jimmy Henderson from the feed mill, to stop by Whitt’s and grab a sandwich from Mitsy, Jennifer and Kelly. Even to walk in at the Pig and buy a big steak. Enjoy your town, for big towns and other countries don’t have what you have, to offer a family. All of you are in my prayers. David Adams |
