Ardmore, AL Town Council by Terralea Collins The Ardmore, Alabama Town Council met on December 11, 2006 at 6:30 P.M. Mayor Eugene Shannon brought the meeting to order, then opened with prayer. Present at the meeting were Mayor Shannon, Councilmen George C. “Moody” King, Billy Shannon, Ricky Mitchell, Mary Hobbs; guest, Laurene Schrimsher, alderman from Ardmore, TN; Terry Barkley, superintendent of the Street Department; businessman Mickey Fowler and the local media. Councilman Melody Duffey was not present. The minutes were read by Darla Daly. Ricky Mitchell motioned that the minutes were written correctly and Mary Hobbs seconded. All agreed. The new roof was put on the old Whitt house. It looks very nice. There was further discussion about curbs and gutters having to be back filled on Carson Way and Whitt Elliott Way. Terry Barkley from the Street Department reported it has been completed and everything was done as asked, with no problems. Mary Hobbs mentioned that there is a need for better lighting at night at the Ardmore, AL city park. Darla Daly said people are calling in complaining about the garbage service. They are not picking up all the garbage. There is a limit to what they will take. The limit is six bags or two cans. If there is more, it will not be taken. The contract runs year to year on November 1. There is a continued discussion about the needs for repairing, updating and retrofitting the water treatment plant in Ardmore, AL and the sewers for both Ardmore, AL and TN. Ardmore, AL, for whatever reason, cannot get a grant from the State of Tennessee for the Ardmore, TN side’s usage. With the growth of Ardmore, TN, the sewers are not going to hold out. The sewer lines from the Tennessee side run into the Alabama treatment plant which needs much overdue repair. It was noted until the Ardmore, TN City Council addresses this problem and figures out a solution to clean, repair and retrofit the Tennessee side sewer system, the problem will only get worse, then cost more in the long run. All major waterways in AL and TN are physically walked through on a monthly basis to be sure there are no obstructions such as leaves or beaver dams. The meeting was adjourned. |
