State Football Champions
Alabama crowned six football champions this past weekend while the weekend before five champions were crowned in Tennessee.
Athens is the new Class 5A champion after edging previously unbeaten Eufaula 10-7.
In another game of interest Guntersville defeated Thomasville 28-27. Guntersville and Ardmore played in the same region for a couple of seasons.
Prattville won the 6A championship over Hoover 35-12.
Sweetwater stopped Cedar Bluff 48-0 in the Class 1A title game. Leroy defeated Woodland 12-7 for the Class 2A title while Pike County stopped Clay County 44-14 for the 3A crown.
In Tennessee the new champions are Jackson Christian, Alcoa, Knoxville Fulton, Maryville and Smyrna.
In Class 1A Jackson Christian stopped Friendship Christian 19-13. Alcoa stopped Goodpasture 31-3 for the 2A title and Knox Fulton stopped David Lipscomb 24-14 in Class 3A. Maryville stopped Hillsboro 35-10 in Class 4A and Smyrna got the best of Ravenwood 35-14 in Class 5A.
