One Streak Ends, Another Begins by Perry Lewter The Priceville Bulldogs handed the Ardmore B-team their first loss of the season last Monday 50-45. However the Tigers bounced back with a 21-17 win over West Morgan on Tuesday and 50-37 at West Limestone last Thursday. Ardmore 50, West Limestone 37 Clay Wales scored 23 points and Matthew Smith added 11 when the Ardmore Tigers defeated the Wildcats at West Limestone last Thursday. The Tigers used a big third quarter to get the win. The Tigers led by five, 21-16, at the half and scored eight unanswered points in the third quarter on the way to the win. Wales, the only player to score in every quarter for the winners, hit three 3-pointers and connected on all four free throw attempts. Smith scored seven of his 11 points in the third quarter while Zane Hambay and Matt Lannom each scored three. Scoring two points each for Ardmore were Jeffery Boyce, Angel Barrios, Jonathan Shannon, Aaron Hill and Jake Marlow. Jay Romine and Tyler McClung, who both scored each quarter, had 16 and 15 points respectively for the Wildcats. Ardmore 21, West Morgan 17 Even though the visiting West Morgan Rebels out scored the Ardmore Tiger B-team 5-3 in the second half it was not enough as the Tigers picked up the 21-17 win. The Tigers had a 10-point second quarter, their best of the game, and never trailed after lead 18-12 at the mid-game break. Jake Marlow, who led the winners, scored nine points including a pair of 3-pointers in the opening period. Zane Hambay and Clay Wales added four points apiece for Ardmore while Angel Barrios and Matt Lannom each scored two. Victarino led the Rebels with 12 points. He opened the final stanza with a basket to account for all of West Morgan’s points that quarter. Marlow’s free throw was the only Tiger point that period. West Morgan 50, Ardmore 45 Free throws in the final minute at Priceville helped determine a winner in that contest. The host Bulldogs hit 8-of -10 from the charity stripe in the final 40.5 seconds on their 50-45 win over the Ardmore Tigers. The Tigers made good 2-of 5 attempts during the final minutes. Grayson Prentice hit a 2-pointer for the Bulldogs with 1:16 remaining to give them their first lead since the end of the second quarter. Jeremy Hale scored for the Bulldogs before Angel Barrios hit a pair of free throws for Ardmore. The Bulldogs scored the next five points, all from the free throw line, before Matt Lannom hit two 1-pointers for the Tigers. Chase Galdwell hit a pair of free throws for Priceville before Clay Wales hit 1-of-2 for Ardmore. Jamie Jones scored the final point of the game for Priceville. Angel Barrios led the Tigers with 16 points as Wales scored 14. Matthew Smith had six Ardmore points while Jake Marlow had four and Lannom three. Scoring two points for Ardmore were Jeffery Boyce and David Keenum. |
