Elkton To Celebrate 200th Anniversary
The Elkton Historical Society and the Joe Wheeler United Daughters of the Confederacy #291 will celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Elkton with a decoration ceremony at the Elkton Cemetery from 1 until 3 p.m. Saturday, May 10. “As part of our celebration of Elkton’s 200th anniversary, Mr. George Newman will share stories about some of the earliest settlers of Elkton who are buried in the Old Rock Wall area in the southeast corner of the cemetery, Carolyn Thompson said. “Elkton Historical Society members will be in period dress and serve lemonade for refreshment,” Thompson added. Beginning at 2 p.m. the Joe Wheeler UDC #291, will have a dedication ceremony for a Confederate Soldier and a Revolutionary War Soldier that are buried in the Elkton Cemetery This recognition will bring the total recognized Veterans since 2006 to 17.
