Ardmore City Board Hears by Dwight Turner The City of Ardmore, TN Board of Mayor and Aldermen, meeting in scheduled session last Thursday night, heard a request from a local resident to have a 29-acre tract of land annexed into the city limits. The requested annexation, made by Clint Newton, involves property located at the end of Spook Hollow Road. According to Newton, he plans to build a house on the property. Mayor Bobby Hastings gave Newton a detailed explanation of the city guidelines and state laws regarding annexation. Hastings explained that the city can no longer legally annex land that does not border property that is contiguous with the city limits. Under current law, the city cannot “jump” over property to annex another tract. Hastings also went on to say that a public hearing would need to be held, giving citizens and involved landowners an opportunity to voice their approval or objections. According to Newton, three properties lay between the existing city limits and the property he wants to have annexed. The board and those present discussed these properties and the various issues involved in annexation, as well as the taxes, surveys, and fees involved. Hastings gave a detailed explanation of the benefits of being within the city limits. After further discussion, Alderman Raymond Crabtree motioned to hold a public hearing on the possible annexation of the property. Crabtree’s motion was seconded by Alderman Garon Hargrove and passed unanimously. In another matter, the board reviewed bids taken on maintenance of the floors in the new City Hall building. After discussing the various bids and the firms involved, it was revealed that the low bid came from CDC Cleaning of Elkmont. CDC’s bid was for a total of $2,700 and includes regular buffing and yearly stripping and multiple coats of wax. Alderman Hargrove stated that he had done business with CDC before and he found them to be highly skillful and reputable. Hargrove motioned to accept the bid from CDC and it was passed without objection. |
