Oscar Mack Gates Oscar Mack Gates, 79, of Pine Street, Athens, AL, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at his residence. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 1, at 11 a.m. at Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bill Worley officiating. Burial was in the Gatlin Cemetery in Ardmore with Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home in charge. Mack was born August 2, 1928 to Hershel and Delia White Gates in Elkmont, AL. He was of the Church of Christ faith. Mack was active in the Athens Senior Center, a member of the Golden Age Band, and a member of the Dulcimer Association. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and then enlisted in the Marines for three more years of service. Mack was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Allen, Gerald, and a sister, Lorene Adams. Survivors include his wife, Betty Gates of Athens, AL; sons, Oscar Mack Gates, Jr. of Decatur, AL, Allen O’Neal Gates of Decatur, AL, Dane T. Gates of Decatur, AL, Shane M. Gates of Elkmont, AL, Jim Massey of Louisville, KY, Tim Massey of Athens, AL, and David Massey of Franklin, TN; daughters, Susan Harpe of Decatur, AL, and Sara Flemming of Valdosta, GA; brothers, Carl Gates of Athens, AL, Howard “Hank” Gates of Ardmore, TN, and Byron Gates of Elkton, TN; sisters, Lucille Hargrove of Elkton, TN, Iris Dean McAnear of Decatur, AL; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Nephews served as pallbearers. Rev. Albert O. Beegle Rev. Albert O. Beegle, 90, of Ardmore, AL, died Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at his residence. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 3, at 3 p.m. at the Taft Full Gospel Church with Rev. Harold Boggs and Rev. Glen Floyd officiating. Burial was in the New Sharon Cemetery in Hazel Green, AL, with Gallant Funeral Home in charge. Rev. Beegle was a native of Madison County, AL, and the son of the late Frank and Mattie Beegle. He was a carpenter and a minister. He was a member of the Taft Full Gospel Church. Rev. Beegle was preceded in death by his parents and three sons, Joe Beegle, Sonny Beegle and Jerry Beegle. Survivors include his wife, Zela Mae Beegle of Ardmore, AL; two daughters, Jane Willard and husband Jess of Thatch, AL, Sherry Cantrell of Bobo, AL; two sons, Ernie Beegle and wife Joyce, Rickey Beegle and wife Mitzi all of Hazel Green, AL; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Sandra Powers Sandra Powers, 60, of Toney, AL, died Friday, May 2, 2008, at her residence. Funeral services were held Sunday, May 4, at 2 p.m. at McConnell Memorial Chapel with Kenneth Jones officiating. Burial was in the Limestone Memorial Gardens with McConnell Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Powers was born March 12, 1948 in Athens, AL, to J.B. Downs and Katherine McCown Downs. She was a member of May’s Memorial Baptist Church. Mrs. Powers was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Powers; her father, J.B. Downs; and brother, Larry Downs. Survivors include a son, Jason Powers and wife Jennifer of Toney, AL; daughters, Ginger Sanchez and husband Aaron of Toney, AL and Allison Mitchell and husband David of Frankewing, TN; her mother, Katherine Maples and stepfather, P.E. Maples of Toney, AL; sisters, Cathy Patterson of Toney, AL, Linda Browning and husband Larry of Toney, AL; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Kris Graviet, Neal Gatlin, Brenton Gatlin, Joshua Wilson, Kent Bevil and Terry Nichols. |
